FERTILITY & WOMEN'S HEALTH

Are you trying to get pregnant?

Are you trying to get pregnant or get your body ready to increase your chances of getting pregnant? Perhaps you’re visiting this page because things aren’t happening quite as you planned…..if so, you are not alone as, according to the latest NHS figures around 1 in 6 couples may have difficulty conceiving.

I support couples in helping them prepare for pregnancy, be it through natural conception or assisted reproduction. The food we eat feeds all of our cells, and our reproductive cells need specific nutrients to work properly. In fact, they are probably the most important cells, carrying the precious DNA of your future child.

The evidence is there; you can improve your fertility through diet and lifestyle changes. Poor sperm quality, obesity, conditions like PCOS and endometriosis, being underweight, as well as just being a little older as a woman can all be profoundly improved through good, evidence-based nutrition. I think of this as a ‘project’ – usually three months will do it. And then I look after you nutritionally throughout pregnancy and beyond.

Usually three months preparation is needed to nourish both sperm and egg quality and to prepare for an IVF cycle. So you will both need your diet assessed. I will ask you to eat foods that are nutrient rich and that have been shown to have a beneficial effect on; hormone metabolism, sperm quality, ovarian function, egg development, and pregnancy. I also cover lifestyle changes; environmental chemicals and their effect on fertility, exercise, sleep and stress management as all have a profound impact on fertility.

You may need blood tests and it's likely you will need to take supplements such as Vitamin D, Co enzyme q10 and folic acid prior to conception. Between us we will formulate the RIGHT plan for you. I provide virtual consults to help you save time and make life a little less stressful.
